The McAuliff Scoop: Beckett's Arrival

Well, this post is a long time in coming and I am sorry for the delay - its been a crazy week as you can imagine!

Here I am at 38 weeks - the last pregnant photo!

So, to begin on Tuesday, July 14, Kevin and I went in for our last regular twice a week check up with the doctor. After a pretty normal non-stress test, the doc came in and let us know my bp was up again, there were some other trends she didn't like. So, off we went to the Maternity triage for monitoring and instant test results.

After about an hour in triage, we got the word from the doctor that we were checking in that night to start the induction process.

Kevin had given us 65% chance of going home that night and we were both surprised that his odds didn't play out this time!

Tuesday night was uneventful, but Wednesday all the fun started! To make a long story short, I spent the day on pitocin, getting my epidural and chatting with Kevin and my family about the merits of 7/15 as a birthday! During the night, the doc tried a couple of things to keep my labor progressing but by morning, it was clear we had stalled.

Around 6am, the nurse apprised Kevin that the doc would be in around 730am and so he ran home to shower, feed the pooches and come back! While he was gone, the doc and the surgeon came in and let me know that Beckett was likely stuck in the birth canal and that we wouldn't likely get him out any time soon in the natural way. So, as soon as Kevin showed up, we were set for a C-Section.

Kevin barely had time to call family and let them know Beckett was coming before he had to suit up for the operating room. My doc wouldn't let him go any further without this photo!

Then, at 8:44am, Beckett came to us! the first thing the nurses said was "look at those hands and feet! They are sooo big!"

It was an emotional rollercoaster, but definitely wonderful experience!

Our little one is here - about 3 hours old! Beckett is a joy and we are loving every single minute of life with him!
